Santo Niño Print

Santo Niño Print
16x12”
(1" sides - 3" top and bottom white border)
Printed on Canson Infinity Arches Aquarelle 310gsm Cotton Watercolour by Papermill Printhouse in Toronto.
This is a print from Jacqueline May from the group show ‘Four Play’.
This painting is the centerpiece of the show, inspired by the Cebu Santo Niño Festival - better known as the Sinulog Festival, a vibrant celebration honoring the Santo Niño (Child Jesus). At its heart is the Festival Queen, the most visible figure in the parade. Dressed in elaborate, radiant attire, she carries the Santo Niño with grace and devotion, a role that holds both honor and prestige.
In this work, the figure is adorned with sampaguita and waling-waling, flowers deeply rooted in Filipino identity and tradition. Yet her face carries a quiet melancholy - an echo of my own questioning and eventual departure from Catholicism. I can still admire the beauty and devotion within the faith, but the weight of guilt it left behind continues to shape both memory and identity.
The show’s monumental centerpiece, this 1.2m × 1.2m painting commands attention with its scale and emotional depth. This is a once-in-a-lifetime collector’s piece.
