Kōkako

Kōkako

CA$400.00

This work features the North Island Kōkako, an endangered forest bird found only in Aotearoa New Zealand. In Māori mythology, the kōkako played a vital role in the story of Māui’s battle with the sun - carrying water in its striking blue wattles to quench the hero’s thirst during a time of relentless heat. Known for its hauntingly beautiful song and graceful presence, the kōkako embodies resilience and hope.

Through this piece, the bird becomes both myth and reminder - an emblem of natural beauty and the urgent need to protect what is rare and endangered.
